Have you been stuck inside with your family during this quarantine? Are you going a bit stir crazy? Here are several ideas on how to break up your home so you and your family can have your own space, as well as fun space to share.
Parent Escape Pod
When a family grew from 4 to 6, it became clear mom and dad needed a place of their own. After touring an Octagonal Living Unit, designed by Craig Pleasants, the vision for the #parentescapepod was born. Designed as a kit for sale as a stand-alone tiny home, the OLU instead was integrated into a renovation of a traditional ranch house to create a new master bedroom suite. Basement Apartment Renovation
The plans below (click to embiggen) represent a homeowner that is planning a drastic interior renovation to make room for a full apartment for their recently graduated college daughter in the basement and a new master suite upstairs. The photos below show the existing house view of the basement before renovation and the beautiful house and property. After completing this study, it was determined that they did not need an addition.
Outdoor Family Spaces
During Quarantine, outside spaces have become even more important then before. Here are several outdoor spaces I have worked on through the years. Two porch areas and a back patio area that are all great for getting some alone time as well as spending time with the whole family.
Family Room
This “Folk Victorian” style home needed more room for a garage and family room. Working with the details of the original home was very important to the homeowners.
Work-Live House
Have you been working from home during Quarantine? Here is a great new home in Frederick County with a large open great room for a growing family with teenagers to gather in and a large home-office space over the garage for the family’s business. What kind of space have you been working in from home? Do you need an upgrade?
