The homeowners of Cacapon View approached us after selecting a “modern cabin design” online and were looking for a local architect to finalize and stamp the drawings for their project. We worked together to make several custom modifications, including the addition of a separate guest suite that is accessible from the expansive screened porch. We adopted a contemporary approach to the materials and colors for the exterior, which sets their cabin apart from the moss-covered shelters and traditional river homes surrounding it. The result is a striking blend of modern design and natural beauty, perfectly articulating their vision.
One standout feature of this project is the innovative “blow out basement.” Elevated on stilts, the home remains dry during river floods, while the nickel gap wood slats allow water to flow through, minimizing damage and enabling affordable repairs. This design, along with a concrete slab beneath the home, creates a versatile and dry space that is ideal for storage and also includes a bathroom for quick clean-ups after a refreshing float in the river.
The elevated structure also provides breathtaking views of the riverbank from the large living room and primary bedroom windows, enhancing the overall living experience. The builder, Homestead Contracting, takes immense pride in this project, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and keen attention to detail throughout the construction process.
